A sign shows the departure times for flights to Cuba at Miami International Airport on Dec. 19, 2014.

Eight U.S. airlines have tentatively been awarded flights to Havana, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced Thursday morning.

The decision would give 10 different U.S. airports at least one weekly nonstop flight to the Cuban capital. American would get the most flights (35 a week) but JetBlue and Delta would fly to Havana from more U.S. cities (three each).
