IRVING, Texas — SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey says the league is happy with Hoover, Ala., as its home for football media days, but is open to exploring the possibilities for other locations in the future.

Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey.

The SEC has held media days in the Birmingham suburb for years, and before that in Birmingham. But Sankey said the conference’s 11-state geographic footprint provides alternatives.

“It’s been on my mind,” he said. “I would not foreclose the opportunity to move around.”

Sankey noted the SEC’s men’s basketball tournament, which has rotated to various locations — and which next year is scheduled to be played in St. Louis — as a potential example.

“We’ve built something special in Hoover,” he said. “But we’re a big conference with a whole lot of interest from a lot of different places.”

Sankey, who is in Irving for the College Football Playoff’s annual meetings, was asked about Texas.

“This is SEC country,” he said, chuckling— noting he’d seen billboards to that effect.

He added: “I’m not saying we will (move), but it’s something that’s been on my mind.”
