With a WIAA Division 1 singles championship already under his belt, Brookfield East's David Horneffer recently added a few other honors to his impressive resume.

Playing with Connor Johnston of Novi, Michigan, Horneffer took home the 18U doubles championship at the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championships in Indianapolis on June 30. The event featured over 1,000 players from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Horneffer and Johnston beat Lukas Greif and Jonathan Small of Zionsville, Illinois, in the finals, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).

Additionally, Horneffer was one of two recipients of the 2016 USTA National Junior Scholar Athlete Award. To qualify for the award, a player must have a 3.75 GPA and be ranked in the top 100 of the USTA national standings. Horneffer, who is ranked No. 30 in the nation, had a 4.45 GPA at Brookfield East High School.

The Dartmouth University recruit also received the USTA/Midwest Section Wallace R. Holzman, Sr. Award, which is given to the player that exemplifies 'the highest standards of tennis accomplishments, character, conduct, sportsmanship and amateurism.'
