Needing a win to stay in first place, the Brookfield Bulldogs overcame a three-run deficit to pull out a 5-4 road win over the West Bend 7-Up on June 26.

A two-run home run by Billy Bynum put West Bend up 4-1 in the fifth, but the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game with a two-run home run by Scott Booth in the sixth and a single tally in the seventh.

Mike Mierow led off the ninth with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third base and then came home on a sacrifice fly by Mike Jacobs to put the Bulldogs up 5-4.

Greg Basthemer, who pitched 41/3 innings of scoreless relief of starter Jonathan Keane, held West Bend down in the ninth to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Dan Barwick and Bill Gorman each had two hits for the Bulldogs, who, at 8-2, lead the Land O'Lakes Suburban Division by one-half game over Lannon.

Blue Sox

The Brookfield Blue Sox were blanked, 6-0, by the Oconomowoc Five O's on June 26.

Oconomowoc starter Luke Nelson tossed a shutout, limiting the Blue Sox to just six hits.

Johnny Arnold surrendered three runs in the first inning but kept the Blue Sox in the game until the Five O's added three runs in the ninth.

Will Johnson and Tim Kahle led Brookfield offensively, as each collected two hits.

The loss dropped the Blue Sox to 6-4 and into a third-place tie in the Suburban Division.

The Bulldogs have a crucial game at second-place Lannon at Joecks Memorial Field on July 3.

The Blue Sox will host the Hartland Oilers on July 2.
