The Brookfield East baseball team has turned its season around.
After losing six of seven entering the week, the Spartans has won six straight, including collecting four Greater Metro Conference victories.
East is now 10-7 overall and in fifth place in the Greater Metro at 7-5, one game behind fourth-place Sussex Hamilton and three games back of conference leader Oak Creek.
The Spartans led the Indians, 3-2, on June 13 at home, when Falls scored four runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. East countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the line to 6-5, only to see the Indians add a run in the sixth for a 7-5 lead.
But East scored three runs in the sixth to take an 8-7 lead and hold on for the victory.
The Spartans outhit Falls, 10-7, as Jake Smith had three hits — two singles and a double — and an RBI to lead the way. Cole Vento singled, doubled and drove in a run; T.C. Swittel had two singles and an RBI; and Travis Styer knocked out two singles.
Swittel pitched 42/3 innings, walked three and fanned two, and Joe Serbiak pitched 22/3 with two walks and two strikeouts.
West Allis Central
Danny Butler, Chris Strawder and Styer combined to blank the Bulldogs, 8-0, on one hit June 14 at home.
Butler, the winning pitcher, worked four innings, walking one and fanning two. Strawder pitched two innings and struck out three and Styer pitched an inning and fanned two.
East scored three in the first and five in the second to put the game away.
Hitting highlights included Smith's two singles and three RBIs and Qunn Hyndiuk's two hits and two RBIs. Vento and Style had two singles each.
Brookfield East snapped Wauwatosa East's four-game winning streak with a 2-0 win June 17.
Swittel threw a one-hit shutout, walking four and striking out six. The Red Raiders' lone hit came in the first inning.
The only runs of the game came on a two-run single by Butler in the second inning. Alex Werchowski and Zach Breider each collected two hits for the Spartans.
Wood Bat Tournament
The Spartans capped their perfect week with a pair of wins June 18 in the South Milwaukee Wood Bat Tournament.
East defeated host South Milwaukee, 4-2, in its first game of the day. Butler struck out six in seven innings, while Avery Barnes went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The Spartans led, 2-0, after five innings before adding two key insurance runs in the sixth. South Milwaukee plated two in the seventh, but Butler put a halt to the comeback attempt.
In the second game, the Spartans rolled to a 10-0 victory in five innings over the Southeastern Wisconsin Christian Homeschool Saints.
Joe Serbiak earned the win by striking out six over four scoreless innings. Nick Davies closed the game with a scoreless fifth inning. Smith went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Styer was 2-for-2.
