It was a busy but successful week for the Brookfield Central girls track and field team.
The Lancers followed a second-place finish at the Lady Spartan Invitational on April 19 at Brookfield East High School by winning the Viking Invitational at Wisconsin Lutheran High School on April 22.
The Lancers scored 108.333 points at the Lady Spartan Invite to come in behind team champion Arrowhead at 127.333 points. Rounding out the top five at the 11-team meet were Nicolet at 99.333 points, Brookfield East at 99 points and Muskego at 66.
Brookfield Central accumulated 126 points to beat host Wisconsin Lutheran at 109 points at the Viking Invite. Cedarburg was a distant third at 77 points.
Lady Spartan Invitational
Winning individual event titles for Brookfield Central were Lexi Romero in the 100-meter dash in 12.71 seconds and Leah Neustedter in the 800 in 2 minutes, 25.47 seconds.
The Lancers also won a pair of relays, with Amanda Miller, Marissa Zepecki, Romero and Michelle Hirsch teaming to win the 4x400 in 4:16.61 and Katie Smith, Neustedter, Alexis Canitz and Emily Smith winning the 4x800 in 10:18.06.
Hirsch was the runner-up in the 1,600 in 5:26.95; Canitz took second in the 3,200 in 12:34.61; Caitlin Locante tied for second in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches; and Romero was second in the long jump at 16-07.
Locante also was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 18.05 seconds; Alice McCullough took fourth in the 300 hurdles in 54.22 seconds; Katie Smith placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 4-10; Taylor Latona came in fourth in the triple jump at 32-06 1/2; Zepecki claimed fifth in the 100 in 13.31 seconds; and Abby Mauermann took fifth in the 1,600 in 5:42.50.
Romero and Neustedter again led the way for Brookfield Central at Wisconsin Lutheran, as both won a pair of individual titles.
Neustedter took first place in the 800 in 2:20.20 and also won the 1,600, in 5:12.47. Romero claimed first place in the 100 in 12.62 seconds and in the triple jump at 36-02. She was the runner-up in the 200 in 26.03 seconds. Locante won the 300 hurdles in 50.63 seconds and claimed third in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet.
Katie Smith, Gabriella Brueggerman, Emily Smith and Canitz teamed to win the 4x800 in 10:29.94.
Miller took third in the 400 in 1:00.41, Hirsch was third in the 800 in 2:22.92 and the 1,600 in 5:23.29, Emily Smith was third in the 3,200 in 12:04.23, Latona claimed third in the 100 hurdles in 17.84 seconds and Megan Patterson was third in the shot put with a top throw of 31-06.
The Lancers also received top-10 finishes from Marissa Zepecki (sixth in 200 in 26.95 seconds, 10th in 400 in 1:04.01), Mauermann (eighth in 1,600 in 5:39.17), Canitz (seventh in 3,200 in 12:24.59), McCullough (sixth in 100 hurdles in 18.57 seconds), Amy Keane (ninth in 300 hurdles in 54.62 seconds), Eva Vang (ninth in shot put at 30-03 1/2) and Katie Smith (fifth in high jump clearing 4-08).
