With 25 top-10 individual finishes, the Brookfield Central boys track and field team claimed the team championship at the Sussex Hamilton Invitational on April 19.

The Lancers racked up 106 points to come in ahead of second-place Cedarburg at 95 points and third-place Waukesha North at 87 points.

"The kids continue to show improvement each and every meet," Brookfield Central coach Steve Kracht said. "The number of personal bests each week is encouraging. All of this improvement is creating some healthy competition within our own team. Hopefully, this is showing the kids that the work they put in is paying off."

Blake Bloes took first place in the 3,200-meter run in 10 minutes, 16.98 seconds. Brookfield Central's lone other event win came in the 4x400 relay with Max Meves, Joey Cleary, Jon Neubauer and Michael Vandenberg teaming to finish in 3:42.48.

Trent Boldin was the runner-up in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches. Also taking second place for the Lancers was the 4x800 relay team of Michael Uy, Adam Uy, Stefan Eagon and Michael Vandenberg with a time if 8:44.04.

Zach Heckman, Jacob Vraney, Trevor Wallen and Ben Geibl came in third in the 4x100 in 47.19 seconds. Joe Urban took third in the high jump at 5-08, Meves was third in the long jump at 19-04 1/2, and Cleary placed third in the triple jump at 38-10 1/4.

Cleary was fourth in the high jump at 5-06, Max Casey came in fourth in the pole vault at 11-06, and Sam Ockwood took fourth in the shot put with a top toss of 41-09 1/2 and fifth in the discus at 119-04. Heckman placed fifth in the 100 in 11.63 seconds. Blake Py was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 11-00; and Ryan McCardle took fifth in the shot put at 41-06 1/4.

Other top-10 finishes came from Gabriel Eagon (sixth in 3,200 in 10:54.57), Breck Duncan (seventh in 1,600 in 4:52.37), Wallen (seventh in the triple jump at 36-05), Adam Uy (eighth in 800 in 2:13.48), Cole Shilobrit (eighth in 1,600 in 4:53.08), Urban (eighth in triple jump at 36-04 1/2) and Heckman (10th in long jump at 18-00).

"The kids scored in 14 of the 18 events, with multiple kids scoring in four of the six field events," Kracht said. "I can't remember the last time we have done that."

Viking Invitational

Brookfield Central scored 22.33 points to come in 12th place at the 15-team Viking Invitational on April 22 at Wisconsin Lutheran High School.

"We just need to keep improving each and every day so that we can be competitive in our upcoming conference meets," Kracht said.

Heckman took sixth in the 100 in 11.55 seconds, Casey was seventh in the pole vault clearing 11-06, Cleary took seventh in the triple jump at 39-11 1/2, Eagon was eighth in the 1,600 in 4:47.74 and Py was ninth in the pole vault clearing 11 feet.

The Lancers were fourth in the 4x400 with Meves, Cleary, Urban and Vandenberg finishing in 3:37.21. Heckman, Chiemeka Chioma, Wallen and Vraney teamed to place fifth in the 4x100 in 45.59 seconds and Adam Uy, Vandenberg, Michael Uy and Eagon took fifth in the 4x800 in 8:42.62.
