Brookfield Central's boys tennis team went 4-0 at the Lancer-Bulldog Invitational last weekend, defeating LaCrosse Central (6-1) on April 21 before downing Cedarburg (4-3), Slinger (5-2) and Oak Creek (6-1) on April 22.

“This was a confidence builder,” Brookfield Central coach Dave Steinbach said. “We have a very young team. It wasn’t the toughest competition in the state, but we need to ease these guys into the fray.”

Brookfield Central’s top three singles players won in straight sets against La Crosse Central. Mark Crowder won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Brandon Beihoff grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, and Philip Akaishi won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

The Lancers then swept the doubles flights, with Taral Jella and Shankar Thiru winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Christian Schwartz and Thomas George rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2, and Dan Michaels and Matthew Chiang winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.

It was the singles flights that carried Brookfield Central in its tightest match, a 4-3 win over Cedarburg.

Crowder won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Beihoff took a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2, Akaishi claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 and Michaels won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

Crowder (6-1, 7-5 and 6-1, 6-2), Beihoff (6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1) and Akaishi (6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2) each grabbed straight-set wins over Slinger and Oak Creek.

Also winning against Slinger were Jella and Thiru at No. 1 doubles (6-2, 2-6, 10-8) and Schwartz and George at No. 2 doubles (6-3, 6-3).

Rajat Mittal earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Oak Creek at No. 4 singles. Schwartz and George won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, and Michaels and Chiang took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles against the Knights.
