Brookfield Central's girls track and field team got its indoor season off to a rousing start by winning the 18-team Performance Running Outfitters Invitational held March 18 at UW-Parkside. The Lancers began last week with a strong showing at the New Berlin West Invitational with a second-place finish on March 16.

With 90 team points, Brookfield Central easily finished ahead of second-place Waukesha West (68.5 points) and third-place Wisconsin Lutheran (62) at UW-Parkside.

The Lancers had two individual champions with Lexi Romero winning the 55-meter dash in 7.27 seconds and Leah Neustedter claiming first place in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 24.11 seconds.

Brookfield Central won the 4x200 relay with Georgina Eberle, Marissa Zepecki, Amanda Miller and Romero posting a time of 1:47.45 and the 4x800 relay with Abby Mauermann, Emily Smith, Neustedter and Michelle Hirsch finishing in 10:05.79.

Mauermann placed second in the 1,600 in 5:27.19, Caitlin Locante was second in the 55 hurdles in 9.33 seconds and fourth in the pole vault clearing 10 feet, Smith was third in the 3,200 in 12:36.38, Eberle was fourth in the 55 dash in 7.45, Megan Patterson took fifth in the shot put with a top throw of 33 feet, 2.75 inches and Alexis Canitz was eighth in the 1,600 in 5:55.87.

The Lancers were third in the 4x400 relay with Zepecki, Hirsch, Molly Thomas and Miller finishing in 4:21.07.

Canitz won the 3,200 at New Berlin West in 13:23.46. Brookfield Central also took first in the 4x800 in 11:14.37 with Smith, Kathleen Wierzchowski, Canitz and Tori Kost.

Gabriella Brueggerman was the runner-up in the 1,600 in 6:02.50, Zepecki took second in the long jump at 14 feet, 2 inches and Taylor Latona placed second in the triple jump at 29 feet, 4.5 inches.

Wierzchowski was third in the 800 in 2:53.81, Kaylie Milton took fouth in the 800 in 2:54.05, Katelyn Barreda was fourth in the pole vault clearing 6 feet, Sarah Uczen placed fifth in the 200 in 31.93 seconds, Amy Keane was fifth in the 55 hurdles in 10.35 seconds, Cami Herman took fifth in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches, Livia Shi earned a sixth-place finish in the 200 in 32.12 seconds and Latona was sixth in the 55 hurdles in 10.36 seconds.

The relay team of Lena Jensen, Thomas, Paris Konzal and Emma Ossmann took second in the 4x400 in 4:58.43, and Alex Suffy, Keane, Katie Bauer and Elizabeth Peters were third in the 4x160 in 1:41.08.
