Despite 31 points from junior forward Patrick Cartier, Brookfield East's boys basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 65-63 loss to Racine Horlick in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal on March 3.

The ninth-seeded Spartans had the ball with the game tied 63-63 in the final minute but committed a turnover. Junior forward Joe Garcia hit a jumper with 4.5 seconds remaining to give the eighth-seeded Rebels a 65-63 lead.

Brookfield East's long shot at the buzzer was no good, ending the Spartans' first season under the direction of Joe Rux at 11-12 overall.

Cartier made 13 field goals and went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line to set a new career high with 31 points. Senior guard Jake Graf scored 15 points, and sophomore forward Riley Le Tourneau added 8 points.

Brookfield East limited Horlick sophomore guard Marquise Milton, who entered averaging 23.5 points per game, to just 16 points. But the Rebels received balance scoring up and down their lineup with junior forward Marcus Caldwell scoring 16 points and Garcia and junior guard Derrick Seay each adding 12 points.
