Brookfield East's girls basketball team advanced to the WIAA Division 1 regional final with a 61-52 victory over Milwaukee Riverside on Feb. 24.
The sixth-seeded Spartans received a challenge from the 11th-seeded Tigers, as they led just 29-27 at halftime before pulling away in the second half. Brookfield East shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field and made just 2 of 17 3-point attempts but went 17-for-24 from the foul line.
Junior forward Lizzy Cagle led the Spartans with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Emma Ralfs had 14 points and nine rebounds; junior guard Adriana Plavsic finished with 11 points and seven rebounds; and junior guard Emma Kiekhofer added 8 points and eight rebounds.
The Spartans whipped the Tigers on the glass, 47-25, but committed 26 turnovers.

Brookfield Central did not receive much of a challenge from Milwaukee Reagen in a regional semifinal Feb. 24, as the third-seeded Lancers cruised to a 76-35 win over the 14th-seeded Huskies.
The Lancers built a 46-14 halftime lead and didn't look back, shooting 47.7 percent (31-of-65) from the field.
Senior guard Caroline Busch and junior forward Reagan Lawrence each scored 12 points to lead Brookfield Central. Junior guard Kailey Ticcioni, senior forward Claire Haynes, junior guard Kristin Gaulke and senior forward Ellery Nordling each added 7 points.

Brookfield Central's boys basketball team saw its 10-game winning streak snapped with an 82-65 loss to Menomonee Falls on Feb. 23.
The Lancers, which entered last week ranked No. 2 in the Division 1 state coaches poll, closed the regular season at 20-2 overall and 12-2 in the Greater Metro Conference, winning the league title by two games over second-place Wauwatosa East.
A poor first half was too much for Brookfield Central to overcome against Menomonee Falls, as the Indians took a 46-33 lead into halftime.
Sophomore guard Gage Malensek led the Lancers with 25 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Junior guard Andres Peralta-Werns and sophomore guard Cole Nau each scored 14 points, and senior guard Sam Rohde added 8 points.
Brookfield Central shot 40.0 percent (22-for-55) from the field but made just 9 of 29 tries from beyond the arc.
The Lancers are the top seed in the WIAA Division 1 West Allis Central sectional and will open the playoffs at home against the winner of 16th-seed Milwaukee King (7-14, 4-7 City Conference) and 17th-seed West Allis Hale (4-18, 2-12 Greater Metro) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3. With a win, Brookfield Central would host either eighth-seeded Racine Horlick (13-9, 8-6 Southeast) or ninth-seeded Brookfield East (11-11, 7-7 Greater Metro) in a regional final Saturday, March 4.
