With four regional champions and 10 sectional qualifiers, Brookfield East's wrestling team put forth a strong showing at the WIAA Division 1 Brookfield Central regional on Feb. 11.

David Holzem, Hunter Fischer, Saif Ibraheem and Caleb Wright claimed individual titles, as the Spartans took fourth place with 164.5 team points.

"I have to say I was amazed by how well we wrestled on Saturday," Brookfield East coach Andrew Mueller said. "Getting 10 qualifiers and six to the finals with four champs really shows the amount of work this group of wrestlers put in.

"Each week of the season the guys continued to get better with very few setbacks, and for us to have our guys wrestle their best tournament of the year is very exciting."

Holzem (24-11) won his title at 132 pounds, collecting a 4-0 win over Sam Mackie of Waukesha West in the quarterfinals and a 4-0 decision over John Crawford of Kettle Moraine in the semifinals before edging Cole Acker of Wauwatosa, 5-4, in the finals.

At 138 pounds, Hunter Fischer (19-14) earned a 14-2 major decision over Hailey Valleskey of Kettle Moraine in the quarterfinals and a 12-4 major decision against New Berlin's Peter Katris in the semifinals. He then won, 9-6, by decision over Lorenzo Lazcano of Waukesha North to take the championship.

Ibraheem (24-6) easily took care of Sam Barta of Wauwatosa with a 16-1 tech fall in the quarterfinals. He then edged Dawson Sayles of Waukesha South, 5-4, in the semifinals before a 7-4 win over state-ranked Joey Scaffidi of New Berlin in the 160 finals.

Following an 11-10 decision over John Reed of Waukesha North in the quarterfinals at 285 pounds, Wright (5-1) pinned Brookfield Central's Jacob Somlai in 5 minutes, 51 seconds in the semifinals and Waukesha South's Nick Lindsay in 3:18 in the finals.

Stephen Multhauf (19-13) collected a pair of pins to reach the finals at 120 pounds before dropping a 7-4 decision to Adrian Coppage of Wauwatosa. His fall over Mohammed Abbasov of Waukesha South in the semifinals prevented him from having to wrestle back for second place.

After a bye in the quarterfinals, Jacob Mandella (20-12) reached the final with a pin of Trevon-Trunnell-Olson of Waukesha South in 1:04 but then was on the short end of a 15-13 decision to New Berlin's Jaron Radish.

Nick Martin (19-15) qualified for sectionals by pinning Zach Leverenz of New Berlin in 1:18 in the third-place match at 195 pounds.

Dylan Thavong (17-14) placed fourth, earning his sectional berth with a 14-5 major decision over New Berlin's Noah Stiller in the 106 quarterfinals. Lucas Mandella (10-16) was fourth at 113 pounds and moved on with a pin of Tyler Vokovitch of Waukesha South in 34 seconds in the quarterfinals.

Also qualifying for Brookfield East was John Champe at 285 pounds.

The Spartans that moved on will wrestle at the WIAA Division 1 sectional at West Allis Central on Saturday, Feb. 18, with the top two finishers in each weight class qualifying for the state individual tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison from Feb. 23-25.
