Brookfield Stars hockey

Brookfield dropped a pair of games last week, losing 6-1 to conference foe University School Milwaukee on Jan. 24 before falling, 5-4, to Eau Claire North on Jan. 28.

Gabe Lehnerer gave the Stars a 1-0 lead with 11:46 left in the first period against USM, but the Wildcats answered 2 minutes later on a goal by Nick Epperson and scored again late in the first period on a goal by Christian Blomquist to take a 2-1 advantage.

After a scoreless second period, Brandon McGill scored a power-play goal just 3:43 into the third period to put USM up, 3-1. Tim Rooney found the back of the net for USM six seconds later, leaving Brookfield down, 4-1. Epperson then completed his hat trick with a pair of third-period goals to put the game away for the Wildcats.

Michael Chavez and Ethan Rentmeester assisted on Lehnerer's goal for Brookfield.

A four-goal first period by Eau Claire North was too much for the Stars to overcome. With Brookfield trailing, 4-0, Joey Schindler scored a shorthanded goal six seconds into the second period and again with 3:50 remaining in the period to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Eric Sinson cut it to 4-3 with 11:12 to play, but the Huskies scored to increase their lead to 5-3. Sinson scored again with 5:52 left to bring Brookfield to within 5-4, but the Stars could not find the equalizer.

Nathan Rozman, Sinson, Zach Davis and Dylan Widmer had assists against Eau Claire North.

The losses dropped the Stars to 7-13-1 overall and 2-4 in the Classic 8. Brookfield will host Arrowhead at The Ponds of Brookfield at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.
