Brookfield East boys basketball
Brookfield East's boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, grabbing a 67-55 win over Milwaukee Bradley Tech on Dec. 7 before falling in its Greater Metro Conference opener, 76-56, to West Allis Hale on Dec. 9.
The Spartans hit nine 3-pointers against Bradley Tech, turning a 31-28 halftime lead into a 12-point win.
Senior guard Jake Graf led Brookfield East with 27 points, including connecting on five 3-pointers. Junior forward Patrick Cartier and sophomore Thomas Francken each added 12 points.
Brookfield East fell behind 43-26 at halftime and couldn't recover against West Allis Hale. Cartier led the Spartans with 16 points, while Graf had 12 points. Led by 32 points from Ryan Haertel, the Huskies shot 62.9 percent from the field and made 10 of 23 attempts from beyond the arc.
Brookfield Stars boys hockey
The Brookfield Stars boys hockey team went 1-1-1 last week, tying Whitefish Bay/Nicolet/Shorewood, taking down Waupun and falling to Marquette to move its overall record to 3-4-1.
Brookfield rallied from four different three-goal deficits to tie WNS, 10-10, on Dec. 6. WNS led 4-1 after the first period, 7-4 after the second period and 9-6 early in the third period. Joey Schindler scored to bring the Stars to within 9-7, while Eric Sinson found the back of the net a minute later.
Schindler then tied the game with 7:57 to play, and Ethan Rentmeester gave the Stars a 10-9 lead with 1:57 left. But Brookfield couldn't hold on, as WNS tied the game at 10 on a goal by George Sullivan with 57 seconds on the clock.
Sinson had four goals and three assists against WNS, while Schindler had two goals and an assist. Zach Davis, Michael Chavez and Gabe Lehnerer also scored.
Brookfield used four unanswered goals over the second period and the start of the third period to earn a 5-3 win over Waupun on Dec. 8.
Sinson, Robert Gruver and Schindler scored second-period goals to give the Stars a 4-2 lead, while Schindler scored again at the start of the third period to make it 5-2. Davis also scored against Waupun, and Sinson had four assists. Emmett Peters made 29 saves in the victory.
Brookfield came close to taking down Marquette on Dec. 9, but the Hilltoppers overcame a 2-1 deficit to earn a 3-2 win, sending the Stars to 1-2-0 in the Classic 8.
Sinson scored to put the Stars up 1-0 early, and a goal by Davis made it 2-1 with 12:45 left in the second period. Ryan Hensien tied the game with 1:41 remaining in the period and scored the game-winning goal with 14:02 to play.
Brookfield Central girls basketball
Brookfield Central's girls basketball team fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Greater Metro with a 47-35 loss to Wauwatosa East on Dec. 9.
The Lancers trailed, 20-17, at halftime, but the Red Raiders pulled away in the second half for a double-digit victory. Senior Caroline Busch led Brookfield Central with 17 points, and freshman Anna Mortag scored 11 points.
Brookfield Central wrestling
Brookfield Central's wrestling team dropped a Greater Metro Conference dual meet, 70-6, to West Allis Hale on Dec. 8 before taking 16th place with 116 points at the Bob Downing Scramble on Dec. 10 at Sun Prairie High School.
Dayveon Martin and Jacob Somlai each earned sixth-place individual finishes in Sun Prairie.
Martin went 3-2 at 138 points, beating Lodi's Hans Obois (8-4 decision) and Beaver Dam's Ian Went-Utrie (6-2 decision) and pinning DeForest's Deacan Geshke in 1 minute, 32 seconds. Somlai wrestled at 195 points, finishing with a 3-2 record on the day. He earned a victory via bye, pinned Oregon's Sam Reynolds in 29 seconds and beat Waukesha South's Nick Lindsay, 7-1.
Brookfield boys swimming and diving
The Brookfield Barracudas co-op boys swimming and diving team swam in two invitationals and had a conference dual meet last week.
With 248 points, Brookfield took fourth place at its own six-team Barracuda Invitational on Dec. 6 at Brookfield East High School. Madison Memorial won the meet with 494 points, followed by Middleton (442 points) and Arrowhead (371 points).
Junior Sam Kult won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.12 and took fourth place in the 200 IM in 2:04.91. Sophomore Joseph Decker was fifth in the 100 butterfly in 56.47.
The Barracudas took third place at the Classic 8 Conference Relays held Dec. 10 at Menomonee Falls High School.
Brookfield took first place in the 400 freestyle relay, as the team of Angel Mayo, Ben Schroeder, Jacob Krynicki and Jacob Wadsinske won in 3:50.94. The Barracudas took second in the 800 freestyle (7:36.31), 300 butterfly (2:43.65) and 200 medley (1:44.12) and third in the 200 freestyle (1:32.53), 400 IM (3:58.38), 300 breaststroke (3:22.49), 500 crescendo (4:34.21) and 400 freestyle (3:27.40).
Brookfield's gymnastics team came in third place at the Frosty Flip Fest on Dec. 10 at Altius Gymnastics Academy.
Kenosha Combined won the meet with a score of 144.725, followed by Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall at 142.65 and Brookfield at 139.5.
Caitlin Locante took fourth in the all-around with a score of 36.5. Lexi Romero came in seventh in the all-around at 35.425.
Romero was second in the vault (9.35), fifth in floor exercise (9.2) and seventh on the bars (8.975). Locante was second on the floor (9.500), ninth on vault (8.775), eighth on beam (8.775) and fourth on bars (9.45). Lexi Penney came in seventh on the beam (8.8).
Brookfield Glaciers girls hockey
Brookfield Glaciers girls hockey went 1-2 at the USM Holiday Classic at Uihlein Ice Arena last weekend.
The Glaciers downed Arrowhead, 10-4, on Dec. 10. Hadley Malcolmson scored seven goals for Brookfield, while Zoe Sternberg scored twice and Lauren Ragon had one goal. Mikayla Pascavis had two assists.
Brookfield fell 4-1 to USM and 7-6 to Waupaca on Dec. 11. Kayleigh Schmor scored the Glaciers' lone goal against USM. Malcolmson had five goals and Pascavis one against Waupaca.
