Brookfield Stars boys hockey

It was a mixed bag of results for the Brookfield co-op boys hockey team last week, as the Stars split a pair of Classic 8 Conference games.

Brookfield fell, 9-1, to Kettle Moraine/Mukwonago/Oconomowoc at Nagawaukee Park Ice Arena on Dec. 2 but bounced back to earn a 6-4 win over Greendale on Dec. 3 at Wilson Park in Milwaukee.

Eric Sinson gave Brookfield (2-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 Classic 8) a 1-0 lead off an assist from Gabe Lehnerer just 1 minute, 28 seconds into the game against KMMO, but the Lasers tied the game 10 minutes later and blew things open with a five-goal second period.

Sinson scored four goals against Greendale to lead the Stars to a victory in a back-and-forth affair.

Lehnerer put Brookfield up 1-0 early in the first period. After Greendale tied the game, Sinson scored twice to put the Stars in front, 3-1. The Ice Force rallied to tie the game heading to the third period. Joey Schindler gave the Stars back the lead just 1:25 into the third period, but again Greendale pulled even.

But Sinson continued his big night with two third-period goals to provide the difference for Brookfield.

Grady Gibson had two assists against Greendale, while Zach Davis, Ethan Rentmeester and Nathan Rozman also had helpers. Emmett Peters made 26 saves in goal to earn the victory.

Brookfield was scheduled to face Whitefish Bay/Nicolet/Shorewood on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The Stars will host Waupun at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, and Marquette at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. Both games will be played at The Ponds of Brookfield.
