Central girls swimming, diving

Brookfield Central's girls swimming and diving team won seven events to claim second place at the Greater Metro Conference championships on Oct. 29 at Central.

Menomonee Falls/Sussex Hamilton won the team title with 645 points, while the Lancers took second with 523.5 points and Brookfield East came in third with 504.5 points.

Senior Natalie Daniel won two individual conference championships, taking first place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.00 and in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.09. Senior Caitlin Locante won the 1-meter dive with a score of 448.5, junior Gwen Gustafson claimed first place in the 50 freestyle in 24.34 and sophomore Maggie Teng won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.10.

The Lancers won two conference relay titles, setting a conference record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.44 behind freshman Anna Kult, Teng, Daniel and Gustafson. The team of Kult, junior Coco Weiner, Daniel and Gustafson won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:42.60.

Kult took second place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.37, while Gustafson came in second in the 100 freestyle in 53.07.

Also earning top-five finishes were junior Casey Kendl (fifth in 100 butterfly in 1:04.72), junior Anna Horvath (fourth in 500 freestyle in 5:37.65), Kult (fourth in 200 IM in 2:17.10), Teng (fifth in 200 IM in 2:17.55) and Weiner (100 breaststroke in 1:12.72).

Brookfield Central will next compete at the Waukesha South/Mukwonago sectional at Waukesha South High School. Diving will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, while the swimming events will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.

Central girls cross-country

Led by a fifth-place finish from junior Leah Neustedter, Brookfield Central's girls cross-country team took ninth place at the WIAA Division 1 state cross-country meet Oct. 29 at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Lancers finished with 240 team points, six behind eighth-place Muskego and 14 ahead of 10th-place Waunakee. Sun Prairie won the Division 1 team state championship with 82 points.

Neustedter posted a time of 18:46.57 to come in fifth. DSHA's Meghan Scott won the individual state championship in 18:10.46.

Junior Abby Mauermann took 51st in 19:45.18, freshman Ryann Locante placed 91st in 20:10.66, senior Emily Smith was 112th in 20:30.94 and senior Alexis Canitz rounded out the scoring lineup by taking 140th in 20:54.02.

Junior Michelle Hirsch (143rd in 20:56.77) and senior Kathleen Wierzchowski (186th in 22:57.81) also ran for Brookfield Central.

Central boys cross-country

Competing at the state meet as an individual qualifier, Brookfield Central sophomore Blake Boles came in 81st place.

Boles finished the 5,000-meter course in 17:01.94.

Central boys volleyball

Brookfield Central's boys volleyball team had its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Pius XI in a regional match Oct. 28.

The fourth-seeded Popes advanced to face top seed Wauwatosa East with set wins of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19 over the fifth-seeded Lancers.

Andy Reich had five kills for the Brookfield Central, while Chad Lewis had 12 digs and Malik Abdul Rahid blocked three shots.
