Prayer not just a feel good measure | Letter

CJ Letter
Gov. Matt Bevin told the audience of around 400 that roaming prayer groups in the city's West End could be a start of helping curb the violence. "I'm going to ask you to walk that block, do it at the same time every single week," Bevin said. "I'm going to ask you to stick with your block all year."

Gov. Matt Bevin recently gave a speech at Shawnee Park calling for prayer as a beginning solution to Louisville's high violent crime rate.  I have served with four governors and this one is the only one who has taken an interest in crime in Louisville. Some have mocked Bevin's call for a prayerful solution, but most of us understand it. Prayer is not just a feel-good measure - it helps us understand the obstacles before us and clears our mind for true problem-solving thinking. It can align our mind and body to something greater than ourselves. It helps us heal and focus. I believe in the power of prayer to help solve our problems and we are blessed to have a Governor that does too. Yes, much more work needs to be done but this is a great start.
