Police arrest man in Charlotte protester Justin Carr’s death
Police officers arrested Rayquan Borum early Friday in the shooting death of Justin Carr during unrest in Charlotte late Wednesday.
Borum, 21, was apprehended around 7 a.m. and charged with murder.
“Our crime scene investigators and our homicide detectives were able to use a lot of footage. A real time crime center was able to supply footage from cameras that helped us solve that case,” Police Chief Kerr Putney said.
Borum has previously been convicted for larceny and breaking and entering, and he faces two pending weapons charges, The Charlotte Observer reports.
Keith Lamont Scott's wife releases cell phone video of shooting
Carr, 26, died Thursday from the gunshot wounds he sustained during the second night of violent protests that erupted in Charlotte. Demonstrators initially took to the streets Tuesday after police fatally shot Keith Lamont Scott, 43, a black man whom officers claimed was armed.
Borum’s arrest came after a mostly peaceful night of protest Thursday during week fraught with violence. Police officers and National Guard members were injured, stores were looted and windows were broken Tuesday and Wednesday night, and police used tear gas against protesters.
A curfew, which was in effect but not enforced Thursday, will continue into Friday night.
