Village of Elm Grove — A warm Wisconsin winter might normally be welcomed with open arms, but there's always a downside.
In this case, the modest weather has led to the cancellation of the second annual Elm Grove Winter Festival.
The village started the event last year and intended to back it up this Saturday, Jan. 28 but Elm Grove recreation director Erin Cross said that the fun and games will have to wait a few weeks.
Activities for the festival included a Candy Cane Hunt, a Frosty Medallion Hunt, a fishing derby, sledding and skating.
"The ice isn't thick enough for skating nor ice fishing and there's no snow on the sledding hill," Cross said. "Any of the activities that we had planned were dependent on it being winter in Wisconsin."
Elm Grove initially began planning for the Winter Festival in 2015, citing a lack of fun activities available to residents during the winter months.
Cross and her colleagues aren't closing the door on the Winter Festival coming through in its second year.
"We're looking to possibly bump it out to the end of February to see if we can get some winter weather," Cross said.
The village plans to release more information on the possible rescheduling of the Winter Festival in the weeks to come.
A winter festival planned for Saturday in Lisbon was also called off due to the weather conditions.
