City of Brookfield - Doing just about anything for three decades can be taxing. For someone whose everyday work varies across an entire spectrum of possibilities, that might be even more true.

But for attorney Mitchell Barrock, it's the opposite.

"It's been amazing. It's been an interesting process," Barrock said.

Barrock, a third-generation attorney and a native of the city of Brookfield, is celebrating 30 years in practice.

"It's turned out to be nothing like what I expected. Every day is different," Barrock said. "That's the great thing about law. Every day has its own unique challenges, unique situations, unique cases and little nuances."

In his time since earning his law degree from Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, Barrock has taken on all sorts of cases around the state of Wisconsin.

"We do a great deal of personal injury, wills and estate planning, family law and a little bit of criminal law," Barrock said. "I would consider us more of a general practice. Whatever you need."

Barrock is one of four attorneys at The Law Offices of Barrock & Barrock.

"I started downtown with my father's practice and he was with my grandfather before that. Barrock & Barrock has been in Wisconsin since 1939," Barrock said.

Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Barrock decided to pursue law at a young age. Barrock attended Brookfield Central High School and Marquette University prior to heading to Lansing.

"There was a great deal of impetus from my father to go into law. While I was in law school "L.A. Law" was out and we were always watching that show and saying 'Oh yeah, this is so exciting,'" Barrock said. "Real life isn't quite like that."

Barrock moved the firm's office from its downtown Milwaukee location to its current home at 13500 W. Capitol Drive. He lives in Brookfield with his wife Nancy; the couple's two children attended Brookfield East High School.

"I've always been a Brookfield person. We've found that our clients really like this location," Barrock said.

The Barrocks take pride in their community with Nancy having also served as PTO president for Brookfield East in the past.

While Barrock & Barrock primarily covers cases in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties, Barrock said that he has stretched those boundaries quite far at times.

"I've had cases as far up as in Green Bay, Manitowoc, down in Racine and in Jefferson County," Barrock said. "It's been a fun ride. Practicing law definitely has its days."
