CITY OF BROOKFIELD — Chubby's Cheesesteaks prides itself on being 'Milwaukee's answer to the Philly Cheesesteak.'

This fall, that answer will be moving west of Milwaukee and taking up roots at N. 124th Street and W. Capitol Drive in Brookfield.

Chubby's co-founders Mazin and Murad Hamdan already have roots in Brookfield courtesy of the Polished Nail Bar at the Sendiks Towne Centre.

'We really like the area and we also kind of wanted to square off Milwaukee,' Chubby's General Manager Jessica Kreidl said. 'If you look at where our locations are, if we're able to do our Bayshore location and Brookfield then people all over the Milwaukee area will have access to Chubby's.'

The new restaurant will be the company's fourth location. It currently operates locations in Milwaukee on the east side and in West Milwaukee on Miller Parkway. The company plans to open what will be its third location this summer at the Bayshore Town Center in Glendale.

The Brookfield location will offer its full menu selections plus gourmet stone oven pizza. In addition to cheesesteaks and the new pizza, Chubby's is well known for offering everything from burgers and fries to breakfast items.

'If you look at our menu right now, it's so much bigger than when we started,' Kreidl said. 'We used to have, like, 20 items. Now it's like a book.'

Chubby's was first founded on the east side in 2007 and saw its first expansion last year with the Miller Parkway restaurant.

'We're definitely growing a lot. I've only been here for four years, but just in the time that I've been here the business has expanded a lot,' Kreidl said.

The Brookfield Chubby's will be located at Shoppers World of Brookfield, 12575 W. Capitol Drive.

Kreidl noted that some renovations to the restaurant's new home, unit 7 at the center, will be required.

Chubby's is also well known for offering a late-night dining, carry out and delivery option for its customers. The restaurant stays open until 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and extends that to 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.

'If (Brookfield) will allow it, we will do it,' Kreidl said. 'There's so many people that like to get delivery late night and we want to be able to provide for those people. So yes, we would like to have the same hours.'

In addition to the two new suburban locations set to open this year, the company said that it is in the process of finding locations in Madison and Oak Creek as well as out of state in Florida, Arizona and California.

'We're really excited about that. (The Hamdans) are looking at possible franchising activities to see if there's other people out there that would like to do a Chubby's,' Kreidl said. 'We're just taking it day by day right now.'

Kreidl also noted that Chubby's Cheesesteaks will be taking up a station at Summerfest this year for the first time.
