Public ice skating: Grab your skates and take a spin around the ice at the Eble Ice Arena, 19400 W. Bluemound Road, from noon to 3 p.m. each weekday and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The cost is $6.50 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Skates can be rented for $2.50.

Picasso, Picasso and Paris — A Salon With Gertrude Stein: Gertrude Stein was an American author and poet best known for her modernist writings, art collecting and literary salon in 1920s Paris, frequented by top names in the arts and letters, most notably Pablo Picasso. Betsey Means will perform this adaptation from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road.

“What the World Needs Now”: This tribute to legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach will be performed at 8 p.m. (also 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m Sunday) at the Sunset Playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road. Art scholarship show: The Elm Grove Woman’s Club, 13885 Watertown Plank Road, is holding its annual art scholarship and reception show from 7 to 8 p.m. Artists and their families, friends and teachers are invited. Winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Winning artwork will remain on display at the clubhouse until Tuesday, April 4, when the recipients of the awards will be invited to attend the awards luncheon at the clubhouse.

Ribbon-cutting at Bentley's Pet Stuff: Join the Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome Bentley’s Pet Stuff to the chamber and business community at 1 p.m. at Bentley’s, 17260 W. Bluemound Road, Ste. 660.

“The Billy Goats Gruff”: The Florentine Opera Company and Family Tales by the Fire present this operatic version of a tale of three billy goats who encounter a bully and must decide how to react at 6 p.m. at the Wilson Center, 19805 W. Chuck Hedges tribute jazz concert: Jazz Unlimited is sponsoring this concert at 2 p.m. at the Wilson Center, 19805 W. Capitol Drive. Pancake breakfast: Brookfield Lodge No. 370 is holding its annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the McKinley Masonic Center, 4550 N. Pilgrim Road, to support Ronald McDonald House and Fisher House. The lodge asks for a donation of $5 per person.

Preschool Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, at 10:30 a.m. for a half-hour session filled with songs, stories and fingerplays. Children must attend with a caregiver.

Tuesday Morning Playgroup: Children up to age 2 can drop in anytime between 10 and 11:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, to play with toys and make new friends.

Toddler Playgroup: Children up to age 3 can enjoy play time with age-appropriate early literacy toys and interaction with other toddlers and their caregivers during this story time at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Drop in anytime between 10 and 11 a.m. Registration is not needed.

At Knit’s End: Knitters of all skill levels can join this group that meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 1 to 3 p.m

Tuesday bridge group: Come play bridge at the Brookfield Senior Community Center at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The cost is $1 per week. A Night of Laughter With Comedian Mike Marvell: Professional comedian Mike Marvell will perform a clean routine based on growing up in Wisconsin at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Tai chi: Members of the Brookfield Senior Community Center will practice tai chi from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the center, which is inside City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.

Hambingo: The Elmbrook Humane Society is the beneficiary of “Hambingo” at Hamburger Mary’s, 734 S. Fifth St., Milwaukee, from 8 to 10 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Elmbrook Humane Society. Enjoy food, bingo and fun.

Trinity United Church of Christ seminar series: Everyone is welcome to attend the spring seminar series at Trinity United Church of Christ, 4435 N. Calhoun Road. All programs begin at 7 p.m. and will last about an hour. The evening’s topic, “Substance Abuse Trends,” is presented by the Addiction Resource Council of Waukesha County.
