If you’ve already burned through your winter selection of books and DVDs, fret not. The Friends of the Elm Grove Library will hold its 31st annual used book sale from March 3-5 at the library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.
During the sale, shoppers can browse through a wide selection of media, including paperbacks, hardcovers, DVDs, CDs and a variety of unique items.
Carla Stensberg, co-chair of the FOEGL used book sale, explains that most paperbacks are $1, bigger paperbacks and hardcovers are $2, and smaller pamphlet-type items like cookbooks will start at just 25 cents.
FOEGL members will have the opportunity to get first pick of the thousands of items for sale during a preview night from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 2. As an added bonus, magazines will be sold for just 10 cents during the preview night. Those interested in joining FOEGL can sign up to become a member at the door for $10.
Everything will be half-off on Saturday, and a bag sale will be held on Sunday where folks can fill a shopping bag with goodies for $5. (Bags will be provided.)
"Much of our items are from private donors from all over the area,” Stensberg said.
Some materials are those that have been removed from circulation at the library. Items are collected throughout the year and are constantly sorted by a team of seven or eight to stay prepared for the annual sale.
Proceeds from the sale go toward purchasing new materials for the library, including books, DVDs, computer items or anything that can be used by the library and its patrons.
Stensberg says that over the 15 years she’s been part of FOEGL, the sale gets bigger and bigger. Last year was the biggest event yet.
“You never know what you’re going to find,” she said.
Shoppers need not hold a library card, or even be Waukesha County residents to participate in the sale.
For those who would like to donate, items can be brought to the library’s circulation desk any time during regular hours. Donations are tax deductible.
