Public ice skating: Grab your skates and take a spin around the ice at the Eble Ice Arena, 19400 W. Bluemound Road, from noon to 3 p.m. each weekday (also 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday). The cost is $6.50 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Skates can be rented for $2.50.

Preschool Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 who haven’t started kindergarten yet can take part in early literacy activities including stories, rhymes and songs from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. This program is offered weekly through Nov. 16. Register for this group by stopping by the Children’s Department or calling the library at 262-782-6700.

Friday 1/13

Morning Coffee Break: Parents and other caregivers can enjoy coffee and conversation while their 3- to 5-year-olds play and listen to stories at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Saturday 1/14

Lego Club: Kids of all ages can come to the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to build fabulous creations with the library’s Legos. Parents must stay with children younger than 10.

Electronics and appliance recycling: Computer equipment, DVD players, VCRs, stereos, cell phones, corded phones, refrigerators, microwaves, freezers, air conditioners, washer/dryers, ranges and more will be collected from 9 a.m. to noon at the City of Brookfield Recycling Center, 19700 Riverview Drive. Family Art Workshop: Jeanne Kollmeyer will lead the My Community Collage family art workshop at the Wilson Center, 19805 W. Capitol Drive, from 10 a.m. to noon. All ages and artistic abilities welcome. Registration is required by calling 262-781-9520. The program is free.

Monday 1/16

Preschool Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, at 10:30 a.m. for a half-hour session filled with songs, stories and finger plays. Children must attend with a caregiver.

Tuesday 1/17

Tuesday Morning Playgroup: Children up to age 2 can drop in any time between 10 and 11:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, to play with toys and make new friends.

Toddler Playgroup: Children up to age 3 can enjoy play time with age-appropriate early literacy toys and interaction with other toddlers and their caregivers during this story time at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Drop in anytime between 10 and 11 a.m. Registration is not needed.

The Milwaukee Mafia: Favin Schmitt, author of two books about the mafia in Milwaukee, will discuss Milwaukee’s criminal underworld of the past from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

Tuesday bridge group: Come play bridge at the Brookfield Senior Community Center located at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The cost is $1 per week. Play with the same partner. Prizes awarded weekly. Advance registration is required. New players should call Iva at 262-703-9585.

Wednesday 1/18

Toddler Tales: Children ages 2 and 3 can listen to stories, sing songs and enjoy finger plays during a half-hour session at 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road.

Tai Chi: Members of the Brookfield Senior Community Center will practice Tai Chi each Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the center, which is inside City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.

Scrabble play: The Brookfield Senior Community Center located at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, hosts Scrabble game playing from 10 a.m. to noon each Wednesday. Just drop by. For information on the center, call 262-796-6675.
