Charges are pending against a school bus driver accused of driving impaired and carrying a concealed weapon while on the job in Brookfield.
The school bus driver, a 43-year-old Milwaukee woman, was taken into custody after police were alerted by staff at Swanson Elementary School, 305 N. Calhoun Road, of a school bus being driven erratically on its way to the school at 8:54 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, according to a news release from the Brookfield Police Department.
When police responded, the children had been dropped off and the bus was just leaving the parking lot.
Officers located the bus driver and determined that she was impaired and carrying a concealed handgun, according to the release.
Police say numerous charges have been referred to the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office, including operating under the influence of intoxicants or other drugs with occupants under 16, operating without proper commercial license endorsements, carrying a concealed firearm, endangering safety by possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm in a gun-free school zone.
