When a resident breaks ground to build a new house, is there a time frame for completion?

Answer: There is!

City of Brookfield director of inspection services Larry Goudy said that the city has standards set in its code that outline the general construction schedule for a new house in regard to both the beginning and end of the process.

“After they break ground, they have four months to start construction and 18 months to finish,” Goudy said.

If a project is not completed within that 18-month time frame, Goudy said that the city could issue a citation to the builders or owners of the property, but that such a situation has not arisen.

“If it’s not completed we could fine them, but that’s not something that we’ve done,” Goudy said.
