In a race that was close until the end, Jian Sun edged out Leanne Wied to earn the Area III seat on the Elmbrook School Board in Tuesday’s spring election.

Sun received 3,104 votes to Wied’s 2,613.

“I’m very pleased with the results," Sun said. "I think that the number is very close to what I expected."

Sun thanked a number of people for making his victory possible, including his family, the Asian-American community in the district and many others.

He also was gracious toward his opponent.

“I would like to thank Ms. Leanne Wied. I think she worked hard as well," Sun said. "I think our race was very friendly. I respect her a lot. She’s a great teacher — I’ve heard that from many people. I hope I can continue to work with her to improve our schools.”

Wied also thanked her supporters throughout the election process.

“I am humbled and grateful for the support that this community has given me," Wied said. "I have learned much from listening to and meeting so many people, and one thing that I have learned we can agree on is that our exceptional public schools make us proud to call this community our home. I wish Mr. Sun the very best."
