CITY OF BROOKFIELD - It's an annual tradition that brings plenty of fun for its guests.

Especially the furry ones.

The Elmbrook Humane Society will host its annual Thank Dog It’s Friday fundraiser Friday, June 23 and all guests — humans, dogs and puppies alike — are invited to take part in the fun.

“We are very excited to once again host Thank Dog It’s Friday, as it strengthens the bond between dogs and the people who adore them,” EBHS Executive Director Heather Gehrke said. “This event is a great way to share our work with the public and for people to donate some much-needed items.”

Thank Dog It’s Friday includes a lure course, swimming pools, raffles, food, vendors and more. For those who have attended previously, the event will be largely the same as past editions.

“It really seems as though people that come to this particular event are coming for the lure course, to enjoy a beverage and a quick dinner after a long work week,” Gehrke said. “We will have a merchandise raffle with some gift baskets from local sponsors and local businesses and we’ll also have a 50/50 raffle.”

In the past, the event has helped the shelter to raise thousands of dollars, but a different aspect has not been as successful.

EBHS is also hoping those who attend the event will consider donating items the shelter is in need of at this time.

"Wish list items have been very few, so our hope is to maybe get some more," Gehrke said.

The list includes:

  • Dry kitten and cat food
  • Grain-free canned cat and dog food
  • Pet nursing bottles (for kittens)
  • Dog and cat treats
  • Peanut butter (without xylitol)
  • Chicken or beef broth
  • Bleach
  • Laundry detergent

To provide an incentive for guests to consider bringing an item or two, EBHS will offer $1 discount tickets for Thank Dog It's Friday activities, such as the lure course, for each item donated.

Funds from the event go to support the shelter's general operations.

Thank Dog It's Friday is free to attend and will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the shelter, 20950 Enterprise Ave.
