An apartment complex was proposed at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Main St. in Brookfield. The project was contingent on Wisconsin Avenue being extended from Brookfield's Main Street to Elm Grove's Pilgrim Parkway. There is now a large sign at the site indicating the 'Artisan' apartments are being leased. Did the city and the village reach an agreement about the road expansion? If so, what is the expected impact on Wisconsin Avenue traffic?
Answer: In the words of Tim Curry as he unknowingly spoke to a television screen in "Home Alone 2," "I'm terribly sorry, sir, but I'm afraid you're mistaken."
The Artisan, a 99-unit apartment building being constructed by Wimmer Communities, was never contingent on Wisconsin Avenue being extended all the way through from its current terminus at Main Street to Pilgrim Parkway, but rather only required an extension 200 feet east of Main.
That said, the extension of Wisconsin all the way to Pilgrim remains a very real possibility. The Village of Elm Grove has been analyzing the idea since last September.
City of Brookfield officials hope the extension could alleviate some of the heavy traffic on nearby Bluemound Road.
"It's sort of in Elm Grove's hands," city of Brookfield Director of Community Development Dan Ertl said. "We're waiting for the village of Elm Grove to approve the extension."
