BEVERLY HILLS — Black-ish is going young-ish.

As fans saw in the season finale of ABC's Emmy-nominated sitcom, Tracee Ellis Ross's Bow is now pregnant — meaning the show is about to add a baby. It's true that babies can sometimes suck the energy out of a sitcom (see: Murphy Brown), but not to worry.  "The baby will be born, and the next week he or she will be 5," joked star Anthony Anderson Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour.

A new child isn't the only newcomer to the show, which will open its season in Florida at Walt Disney World. Daveed Diggs, who just won a Tony for Hamilton, is joining the cast in a recurring role as Bow's brother.

“We’ve been working a full week and a half and the sucker has not worn a full shirt the whole time," says Anderson. "He's been wearing tank tops and smells like frankincense and myrrh!”

What to expect from your favorite TV shows this season

Black-ish is a show about an African-American family, but creator Kenya Barris is tired of people referring to it as a "black show" or asking if it mainly appeals to African-American audiences. "Don't you see yourself in it?...Why can't we just look at the show for what it is and celebrate these actors?...I'm so tired of talking about diversity. These are amazing, talented actors and writers who give their all," he says.

"This is for us, by us," Anderson adds. We get to tell our stories every week that resonate with an audience globally. We couldn't ask for anything more than this."
