NEW YORK (AP) — After a yellow cab jumped the curb and struck a New York City pedestrian, Dr. Oz was there.

Dr. Mehmet Oz at the offices of Sony Television, which syndicates his popular TV show.

Celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz heard the accident Tuesday morning outside Rockefeller Center and rushed to the scene to help out. The studio where he tapes his syndicated talk show is nearby.

Oz says in a statement that emergency medical crews were already treating the injured woman. He says a good Samaritan made a tourniquet out of a belt for the woman, a British tourist who lost her leg in the accident, according to New York's Daily News.

Oz credited the good Samaritan, plumber Dave Justino, for being the real hero.

"The real hero of the day is plumber Dave, just an average Joe, an average Dave just walking along the street, but he saved her life," Oz told the Daily News. "It's very smart thinking. A simple thing like a union plumber's belt can save your life."

The fire department said the woman was hospitalized. Doctors at Bellevue Hospital will try to re-attach her leg, the Daily News reported.

Another victim suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.
