Magic, Comedy and Fun: Nickey Finn will perform magic and make you laugh during a performance appropriate for all ages from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

Musician Rich Baumann: Kids are welcome to sing along with Rich Baumann as he plays energetic songs on banjo, autoharp and mandolin at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Village of Brookfield Farmers Market: A variety of local vendors will sell fresh produce, hand-crafted food products and more from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Oct. 5 in the Village at 18725 W. Hoffman Ave.

Public ice skating: Summer public skating hours begin. Grab your skates and take a spin around the ice at the Eble Ice Arena, 19400 W. Bluemound Road, from noon to 2 p.m. seven days a week. The cost is $6.50 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Skates can be rented for $2.50.

Public Swim Times: The aquatic center at Wirth Park, 2585 N. Pilgrim Road, is open through Aug. 20. The zero-depth pool will be open for public use from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. The full facility will be open 1 to 4:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 8 p.m. weekends. (July 4 hours will be 1 to 8 p.m.). The pool may be closed if air temperature is below 65 degrees, attendance is low or there is lightning. Word Class 1: Learn how to start Microsoft Word, create a new document, move the cursor around, save a document, print, and do basic editing during this class at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Friday Morning Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., from 10:30 to 11 a.m. for stories, rhymes and other early literacy activities. Refreshments will be served, and siblings are welcome. Just drop by.

Artist Reception: Meet artist Michael Ware during a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ploch Art Gallery at the Wilson Center, 19805 W. Capitol Drive. Open Storytime: Stories and songs for all ages will be presented at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road.

Cruisin’ the Grove: Enjoy Elm Grove’s classic car and motorcycle events beginning at 5 p.m. behind the Silver Spur Restaurant, 13275 Watertown Plank Road. A DJ will play music, food and drink will be available at the Silver Spur and O’Donoghue’s Irish Pub.

Read to Dexter the Cat: Students in grades 1 through 5 can practice reading aloud to Dexter the cat at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Sign up for a 25-minute session that will take place between 4:30 and 6 p.m. by calling the library at 262-782-6717.

Tuesday 6/27

Lego Club: Kids of all ages can come to the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 7 to 8 p.m. to build fabulous creations with the library’s Legos. Parents must stay with children younger than 10.

Minute to Win It: Teens can test their skills in a series of 60-second challenges at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Toddler Playgroup: Children up to age 3 can enjoy play time with age-appropriate early literacy toys and interaction with other toddlers and their caregivers during this story time at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Drop in anytime between 10 and 11 a.m. Registration is not needed.

Tuesday Movie Matinee: Come watch the movie “The Secret Life of Pets” at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd, from 1 to 3 p.m. Popcorn will be provided. Kids can bring a blanket or pillow to sit on the floor. The movie is rated PG.

Documentary Film Screening: The PBS series “The Brain With David Eagleman” will be shown from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Eagleman explores how the brain conjures the world we experience. After the film neuroscientist Adam Greenberg will facilitate a discussion.

Tuesday bridge group: Come play bridge at the Brookfield Senior Community Center located at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The cost is $1 per week. Tunes on Tuesdays: The Saturday June Band will perform a free, outdoor concert at the gazebo in Village Park, 13600 Juneau Blvd., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Self Defense for Women: Women 16 and older can learn and practice techniques for protecting themselves during this class taught by Bob Chapman, former Milwaukee Police Department and SWAT member, and John Matter, USMC (retired) of the Applied Tactical Training Academy. The class will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Trinity UCC, 4435 N. Calhoun Road. The cost is $30 and pre-registration is required by June 23. Read to Cooper the Dog: Kids in grades one through five can practice reading out loud to Cooper the dog during a 25-minute session to be held between 3 and 4:30 p.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Call the library at 262-782-6717 to make an appointment.

Tai Chi: Members of the Brookfield Senior Community Center will practice Tai Chi each Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the center, which is inside City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.
