Public ice skating: Grab your skates and take a spin around the ice at the Eble Ice Arena, 19400 W. Bluemound Road, from noon to 3 p.m. each weekday and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The cost is $6.50 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Skates can be rented for $2.50.

Toddler Tales story time: Children ages 2 and 3 can enjoy stories, songs and finger plays at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, at 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. A caregiver must attend this half-hour program with the child. Register at the Children’s Reference Desk the morning of the program.

Family Story Time: Children and their families can take part in a program of stories, songs and rhymes from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road. Caregivers must attend with the children. Registration is not necessary.

Baby and Me Story Time with Cheri Riehle: Children up to 3 years of age and their caregiver can take part in playtime with toys related to the theme for the day from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Registration is required; call the library at 262-782-6717.

Preschool Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 who haven’t started kindergarten yet can take part in early literacy activities including stories, rhymes and songs from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Register for this group by stopping by the Children’s Department or calling the library at 262-782-6700.

“The Dixie Swim Club”: Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. The play, presented at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunset Playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road, focuses on four of those weekends, spanning more than 30 years. Tickets for this opening night performance cost $10. BabyTime Story Time: Children up to 23 months can listen to stories, sing songs and more during this program from 11 to 11:20 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road. A parent or caregiver must attend with the child.

Entertainment for Kids: David Landau will present a show filled with music and silliness that is great for all ages, but especially preschoolers and kindergartners, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

FOEGL Presents - Pizza and Poetry: A Brookfield East jazz quartet performance, poetry readings by local young adults, improv comedy by Comedy Sportz and free pizza will be served up at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd, from 6 to 8 p.m. Register for a seat or to present your poem by calling the library at 262-782-6717.

Children’s Area Dedication: Celebrate the new redesigned children’s area at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun road, at 11 a.m. Mayor Steven Ponto will lead a ceremony and light refreshments will be served.

Saturday Morning Playgroup: Children up to 24 months of age can play with toys and each other from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road.

Elephant & Piggy Say Thank You: Children ages 4 to 8 can make a craft, play games and dance during this session from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road. A caregiver should be present. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink and gray.

Sunset Playhouse Sheepshead Tournament: A sheepshead tournament will be held at the Sunset Playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road, at 1 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee. Register by calling 262-782-4431, ext. 221. Complimentary snacks will be served. Cash and raffle prizes will be available.

Monday 4/24

Preschool Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, at 10:30 a.m. for a half-hour session filled with songs, stories and finger plays. Children must attend with a caregiver. Register at the Children’s Reference Desk the morning of the program.

Understanding the Stock Market: The Wisconsin Chapter of Better Investing will provide attendees tips about and a better understanding of the stock market during a presentation at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Read to Dexter the Cat: Students in grades 1 through 5 can practice reading aloud to Dexter the cat at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Sign up for a 25-minute session that will take place between 4:30 and 6 p.m. by calling the library at 262-782-6717.

Tuesday Morning Playgroup: Children up to age 2 can drop in any time between 10 and 11:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, to play with toys and make new friends.

Lego Club: Kids of all ages can come to the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 7 to 8 p.m. to build fabulous creations with the library’s Legos. Parents must stay with children younger than 10.

Word Class 2: Learn basic editing techniques in Microsoft Word,  including making text bold, italics or underlined; formatting fonts and text; cutting and pasting; and undoing changes during this class at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 10 to 11 a.m. Registration is required; call the library at 262-782-4140, Option 1. Basic keyboard and mouse skills are required. This class is designed for those who have completed Word Class 1.

Toddler Playgroup: Children up to age 3 can enjoy play time with age-appropriate early literacy toys and interaction with other toddlers and their caregivers during this story time at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Drop in anytime between 10 and 11 a.m. Registration is not needed.

Tuesday bridge group: Come play bridge at the Brookfield Senior Community Center located at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The cost is $1 per week. Elm Grove Reads 9, with Kristin Hannah: New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah, this year's featured guest for Elm Grove Reads, will appear at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., from 7 to 8 p.m. The appearance is in conjunction with the paperback release of her bestselling novel “The Nightingale,” a World War II story of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom. Tickets for this event cost $5, with proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Elm Grove Library. A limited number of tickets are available at the library. Boswell Book Company will have books for sale at the event, and Hannah will sign books.

Tai Chi: Members of the Brookfield Senior Community Center will practice Tai Chi each Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the center, which is inside City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.
