Public ice skating: Grab your skates and take a spin around the ice at the Eble Ice Arena, 19400 W. Bluemound Road, from noon to 3 p.m. each weekday and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The cost is $6.50 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Skates can be rented for $2.50.

Toddler Tales: Children ages 2 and 3 can listen to stories, sing songs and enjoy finger plays during a half-hour session at 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road.

Baby and Me Story Time with Cheri Riehle: Children up to 3 years of age and their caregiver can take part in playtime with toys related to the theme for the day from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Registration is required; call the library at 262-782-6717.

Preschool Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 who haven’t started kindergarten yet can take part in early literacy activities including stories, rhymes and songs from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. This program is offered weekly through Nov. 16. Lure and Lore of Spices: Patty and Tom Erd of the Spice House will share historical facts and entertaining tales of spice merchants who pursued high-quality spices around the world from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road.

Friday 3/24

BabyTime story time: Children up to 24 months can listen to stories, sing songs and more during this program from 11 to 11:20 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road. A parent or caregiver must attend with the child.

Morning Coffee Break: Parents and other caregivers can enjoy coffee and conversation while their 3- to 5-year-olds play and listen to stories at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd., from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

“MOSES - One Man, One God, One Vision”: Steps of Grace Ballet School will present the story of Moses through dance at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Road. The public is welcome to attend. Tickets cost $5 for the matinee and $8 for the evening performance; artist circle tickets are available for $15 for the evening show. Read to Enzo the Dog: Students in grades 1 through 5 can practice reading aloud to Enzo the dog during a 25-minute session between 1 and 2:30 p.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Call the library at 262-782-6717 to reserve a session.

“Glorious Gershwin!”: Pianist and singer Kerry Hart Bieneman will present a concert honoring the Gershwin brothers at 7:30 p.m. (again at 2 p.m. Sunday) at the Sunset Playhouse, 800 Elm Grove Road. Tuesday 3/28

Tuesday Morning Playgroup: Children up to age 2 can drop in any time between 10 and 11:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, to play with toys and make new friends.

Toddler Playgroup: Children up to age 3 can enjoy play time with age-appropriate early literacy toys and interaction with other toddlers and their caregivers during this story time at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Drop in anytime between 10 and 11 a.m. Registration is not needed.

Lego Club: Kids of all ages can come to the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, from 7 to 8 p.m. to build fabulous creations with the library’s Legos. Parents must stay with children younger than 10.

Tuesday bridge group: Come play bridge at the Brookfield Senior Community Center located at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The cost is $1 per week. Tai Chi: Members of the Brookfield Senior Community Center will practice Tai Chi each Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the center, which is inside City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.

Vegetable Container Gardening: University of Wisconsin-Extension Master Gardener Judy Plier will explain ways to grow and harvest vegetables using the least amount of time, space and money at 7 p.m. at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road. No registration required.

Memory Screening Day: Ronda Bauer, a dementia care specialist with the Waukesha County Aging and Disability Resource Center, will conduct 15-minute memory screenings and offer information about useful resources from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd. Memory screenings create a baseline by which future changes can be monitored; they do not provide a diagnosis. Trinity United Church of Christ Seminar Series: Everyone is welcome to attend the spring seminar series at Trinity United Church of Christ, 4435 N. Calhoun Road. All programs begin at 7 p.m. and will last about an hour. Topics are: March 29 - “Fraud and Identity Theft,” presented by the Brookfield Police Department; and April 5 - “Substance Abuse Trends,” presented by the Addiction Resource Council of Waukesha County.

Scrabble play: The Brookfield Senior Community Center located at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, hosts Scrabble game playing from 10 a.m. to noon each Wednesday. Just drop by. For information on the center, call 262-796-6675.
